Why Bridle&Bark

In 2026, I completed a City & Guilds Level 3 Advanced Technical Extended Diploma in Animal Management at Duchy College. This intensive, comprehensive qualification is designed for professionals aiming to work at the highest standards of animal welfare and science.

My training encompassed a deep dive into several critical disciplines, including:

  • Advanced Animal Physiology & Anatomy: Understanding the intricate biological systems of canines and equines.

  • Behaviour & Welfare Science: Studying natural behavioural patterns, cognitive processes, and psychological needs.

  • Rehabilitation & Safe Handling: Learning evidence-based techniques to rehabilitate animals experiencing stress, trauma, or behavioural decline.

  • Nutrition, Health & Safety: Understanding how dietary health and environmental management impact an animal's overall well-being.

It is with great excitement that I launch my own business: Bridle&Bark, Canine and Equine Behaviour and Training. I’m here to help.

The Crucial Link: Pain vs. Behaviour

One of the most vital aspects of my Level 3 Training and the core philosophy of Bridle&Bark is the ability to assess the physical state of an animal before addressing their mental state.

Behaviour does not happen in a vacuum. Very often, a sudden behavioural problem or a resistance to training isn't defiance, it is a progression of underlying physical discomfort or pain.

Because I am trained to look at the animal comprehensively, I analyse physical markers such as gait, posture, subtle shifts in biomechanics, and physiological stress responses. This allows me to accurately determine whether an animal requires:

  1. Medical Referral: Identifying signs of pain or discomfort that need to be addressed by a veterinarian before any training can successfully take place.

  2. Behavioural Rehabilitation & Training: Pinpointing the root emotional cause of a behavioural issue such as fear, frustration, or lack of boundaries and addressing it with targeted training.

My approach is built on the belief that true behaviour change isn't about simply suppressing a reaction; it’s about changing the underlying emotion that fuels it. By ensuring your animal is physically comfortable and emotionally understood, we can build confidence and trust through thoughtful socialisation and obedience.

Ultimately, my goal is to strengthen the bond between you and your horse or dog, creating a relationship rooted in mutual respect, safety, and lasting harmony.
